In time past, every child or adult has been taught to brush their teeth every morning and night to ensure adequate dental hygiene. Well, it does not guarantee the necessary dental hygiene our teeth need.In order to meet the standards of dental hygiene, it is best to understand proper brushing technique and acquisition of dental care products such as dental floss, mouth wash and other dental care products.

In proper brushing technique, it is not enough to do a quick brush to clean and polish your teeth of leftover food particles. However, it is best to start with your brush at a 45º angle to your gums and use short back and forth strokes across the sides and upper areas of your teeth. Next, hold your brush vertically use several shorter strokes to focus on the backs of your teeth, especially the anterior teeth where plaque builds up often.

1. Floss regularly:

As delightful as brushing regularly is, it is not holistic in its role in cleaning your teeth. Brushing focuses on cleaning the surface of the teeth, but it cannot do the same for the spaces between the teeth.

In view of this, flossing comes in to get rid of food residue and other leftover substances stuck between the teeth. It is required that you floss at least once a day.

2. Teeth-friendly diet:

Most people only eat something primarily because it tastes good. However, have you considered the effects of these different foods or snacks on your teeth? Foods such as nuts, fruits (especially apples), cheese, chicken and vegetables are teeth-friendly.

An interesting fact about cheese is it stimulates your salivary glands to produce more saliva which neutralizes acid in the mouth.

3. Regular visits to the dentist:

As much as most people neglect this, it is very important. You can do your best but the rest is left to the dental care experts.

As permissible as your schedule can be, make it a habit to see the dentist for a full oral checkup and teeth cleaning. Adhering to this can save you from a lot of dental disorders in the future.

4. Limit intake of sodas and alcohol:

Not only does soda and alcohol serve as hazards to our teeth, but tobacco is also another danger to them. It can cause periodontal complications such as oral cancer.

Beverages such as tea or coffee, taken to mask the smell of tobacco by its users worsen the damage already done to the teeth.

Alcohol and sodas increase serum phosphorus levels which have an effect on the serum calcium levels in the body.
This cause the depletion of calcium leading to dental hygiene problems such as tooth decay and gum disease. Instead of these beverages, it is recommended to hydrate your body with mineral water. If taking a soda drink, it is best to take it with a straw to avoid direct contact with the teeth.

5. Stop Snacking:

Have a habit for midnight snacks? Brushing your teeth well clears bacteria and food particles, however, if you eat afterwards it just introduces food particles to the teeth again.

Having a snack before sleep (normally without brushing) can allow food particles and sugar to remain on your teeth for prolonged periods, providing the fuel the bacteria needs to grow.
It is mandatory to drink only water after brushing your teeth in the evening to help improve your dental hygiene.
